Pitch the Plastic

It’s no secret that plastic is no friend to the environment but it’s even worse than you probably think. I was certainly 

surprised to learn less than 9% of plastic is actually recycled (Plastic Oceans, 2021). A garbage truck full of plastic 

is dumped into the ocean every minute. All that watery plastic is responsible for killing a million marine animals each 

year and leads to humans eating more than 40 lbs. of plastic over their lifetime. By the year 2050 there will be more 

plastic in the ocean than fish (Plastic Oceans, 2021). 

It seems nearly impossible to get rid of all plastic but there are simple ways that you can reduce it. Some ideas: 

• Look for items with less plastic packaging

• Get reusable water bottles, straws & grocery bags

• Buy in bulk with reusable bags

• Switch to bar soap instead of body wash

• Say goodbye to things like gum and mints

• Use cloth diapers & replaceable blade razors

• Invest in non-plastic dishware/utensils for home & events
